Coronavirus update 19/03/2020

As of today the doors at Stonehouse will also be locked. This is again to ensure patients are not put at risk because we cannot maintain social distancing and reduce the risk of infection. As per Larkhall all appointments will initially be telephone appointments and we will continue to deal with urgent issues only. If a clinician feels you need seen face-to-face they will organise this and tell you how and when to attend for this. Prescriptions will be sent to Boots unless another pharmacy has been nominated. Please contact the pharmacy before attending to collect your prescription as they may need to operate more limited opening hours to maintain service and patient safety. Our pharmacy are requesting patients order prescriptions 72 hours prior to being needed instead of the normal 48  due to work related pressures. Our pharmacy colleagues are also under immense pressure and doing a fantastic job helping to provide care in our community. Please be patient and polite with them.

Please do not order your repeat prescriptions early (i.e. only order 3 days before your medicines are due)- prescriptions will checked and if not due will not be issued early. Over ordering is significantly overwhelming our local pharmacies and will result in longer waiting times for medications or possible unnecessary medication shortages.

We are currently organising further phone lines to be installed to improve access to prescription requests by phone. Please bear with us- we are trying to improve this service as quickly as possible and our telecommunications company are doing their very best to get us up and running. Please remember the telephone prescription line is open 24 hours a day and any out of hours requests will be actioned the next morning.

We are aware some patients may have discharge paperwork from recent hospital admissions. If possible please scan these and email them to our practice website Avon.mc@nhs.net This will be checked regularly. Can we ask that the paper copy of the discharge script then be posted to us at the Larkhall site even if you are a Stonehouse patient.(The Avon Medical Centre, 1 Academy Street, Larkhall ML9 2BJ) Our pharmacy team are based in Larkhall and are going to be vital in us processing these requests as quickly as possible.

Mental Health Self Care during Coronavirus:

We are aware many of our patients who may or may not struggle with their mental health normally might be suffering from anxiety related to the coronavirus pandemic. We have provided some self care resources which we hope will be useful. We are keen that our patients and their families know how to protect both their mental health and their physical health in the coming weeks and months. Coronavirus update 18/03/2020

As of the 17th of March the partners have taken the difficult decision to close the doors at the surgery. This will be for the foreseeable future as there has been a high volume of patients attending at reception despite advice not to. We have a duty to keep our patients safe and practice social distancing to prevent virus spread.

The prescription line is open 24 hours a day. If you cannot get through during office hours please try after 6- your message will be saved to the answer service and actioned the next morning. You do not need your practice ID number- simply leave your name and date of birth clearly. Your phone number is recorded so if there are any questions reception can call you back. If leaving a prescription request we would appreciate if a local pharmacy could be nominated by yourself- your prescription will be sent there. If no pharmacy is nominated we will send your prescription to the smaller Boots store on the high street in Larkhall. We would advise you to contact your pharmacy and check with them as to how and when to collect. Some local pharmacies are operating timed collections to help them manage their workload and keep vulnerable patients safe.

As before if requiring an appointment a telephone slot will be offered first. If the clinician feels you need to be seen they will advise you on how to do this. We will deal with urgent and same day issues but routine issues will be asked to return at another time.

Coronavirus update 15/03/2020

Due to the evolving situation with the coronavirus (Covid-19) the partners have taken the decision to suspend all bookable face-to-face appointments with immediate effect. All appointments will now be telephone appointments and only urgent issues requiring same day review will be dealt with. If a face-to-face review if required this will be organised  by the doctor after an initial telephone consultation. PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT- you will be asked to return home and await a call from a clinician. 

If you are concerned you may be suffering from coronavirus (Main symptoms are fever, dry cough and shortness of breath) you should go to the NHS inform website for more information. Those suffering from mild symptoms do not need a review by a GP and should follow current isolation guidance as per the NHS inform information. Those who feel they are becoming more unwell will be reviewed in the first instance by telephone before deciding on further action. If you become so unwell you feel you need immediate attention call 999 but please make the operator aware you are worried you may have coronavirus. Please note contrary to reports in the media GP practices are not commencing widespread testing for coronavirus in the community.

This decision has been made to maintain the safety of our patients- in particular those who are most at risk with regards to coronavirus. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your help in allowing the surgery to adapt to provide the best possible care in challenging circumstances.

Coronavirus Update

As the result of the emerging Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), the partners have taken the decision to suspend internet bookings of appointments. This is to allow patients to be assessed and try and stop the spread of the illness within the surgery to keep vulnerable patients safe.

If you have a cough, shortness of breath or fever please do not attend the surgery - even if you have not travelled or been in contact with an infected patient. Please call the surgery. Reception staff will speak with you and organise a telephone review with a clinician to discuss your symptoms in the first instance.

The Breast Screening Programme currently in Larkhall

 Over the coming weeks, all women age 50 – 70 registered with this practice will shortly be invited for breast screening (mammogram). You will receive your appointment letter through the post inviting you to a mobile unit situated in the Asda Car Park, Broomhill Drive, Larkhall, ML9 1QP .

 

If the appointment you receive is unsuitable, please call the centre to rearrange it.

Improvements to our appointment system

We are delighted to inform you that from 6th January 2020 we are improving our appointment system.    You will find access to see a clinician will be much better.  The key principles of the system are as follows:

  • We will run a same day system:  simply book your appointment online FROM 6am, or phone from 8am, on the day you wish to be seen.  We advise booking online, or phoning, as early as possible each day as once appointments are fully booked you will be asked to re-contact the surgery the next day.
  • You may be seen by any one of a number of healthcare professionals depending on the nature of your problem.  This could be a GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Surgery Pharmacist and in the future this team will broaden.  For this reason you will be asked by receptionists for some details about your condition so they can appoint you to the most appropriate person.
  • For safety reasons we will deal with ONE problem per appointment.   If you have more than one problem please pick the most important issue to discuss with the clinician that day and book another appointment for other issues on another day.

If you have any questions about this new system please feel free to ask the practice staff.  We are confident you will find this system improves your access to healthcare from our practice team.

DAILY 1-2PM CLOSING TIMES

 

 

The practice will close between 1-2pm daily, Monday to Friday.  During this time, should you require a doctor in an emergency, a mobile telephone number will be given when telephoning the usual practice number (Avon 01698 552930 or Cander 01698 794910).  This mobile number will allow you access to a GP in surgery in the event of an emergency.  

 

For all routine enquiries etc. please do not call between 1-2pm as your request will not be processed

HOME VISITS

 

Please note, as of 1st June 2019, ALL home visit requests should be requested by 11am on the day of the request.   This will allow GPs to improve their management of home visits requested and prioritise where necessary.  

A GP will call you back after the request to discuss your symptoms and determine if a home visit is appropriate.   Please therefore ensure your patient details ie address and telephone number is up to date.
